[...] TheSportsGuru 2006 NFL Preview - New England Patriots Projected Record 12-4, 1st Place AFC EAST Projected Schedule W/L Buffalo (W) @NY Jets (W) Denver (W) @Cincinnati (L) Miami (W) @Buffalo (W) @Minnesota (W) Indianapolis (L) NY Jets (W) @Green Bay (W) Chicago (W) Detroit (W) @Miami (L) Houston (W) @Jacksonville (L) @Tennessee (W) Can a team still be successful, still be elite, while going through transition? That’s what the New England Patriots are trying to do. Injuries, age, and attrition are all taking their toll on the Pats, who were knocked out of the playoffs last season in the 2nd round after winning back-to-back Super Bowls. During the off-season they said good-bye to the likes of Tom Ashworth on the O-Line and team leader Willie McGinest on defense. They have granted leading receiver Deion Branch permission to seek a trade, to find some sort of resoluton to the hold-out that has lasted all off-season. The one constant, however is #12 behind center. As long asa Tom Brady is on the field the Patriots have a chance, and in 2006 it is more than a fighting chance. The fact that the Pats are #4 on my Guru Power Rnakings should show you how much I like the Pats this year, even with all the changes. The Dolphins are tough, the schedule is tough, but Brady and the Pats are a little tougher.
Great analysis, very in-depth and well thought out. I think the Deion Branch situation is interesting because, as I blogged about yesterday, the Patriots still hold all of the leverage in those negotiations. Branch is in the final year of his deal, which means no team is going to trade a first-round pick for him and he also must play in at least six games to become a free agent after the season.

Thanks, Andy, I appreciate the feedback.

About Branch, you are exactly right. The Patriots do hold all the cards and I think Deion knows that. The way the two sides are handling the situation is a win-win for both. If the Patriots trade branch it's because they got an offer that knocked their socks off, it means that Branch got his big contract. If he ends up re-signing it shows that the Pats offer was fair, and at teh same time shows other players on the team that Belichick won't give in to every player that holds out. It's a good ploy for both sides.

Now, lets talk football. I have watched the three preseason games and i have to tell you the patriots are the most dominent team i've seen yet. The last game when Cassel came in he didn't miss a beat and picked up where Brady left off. Cassal has serious talent and i believe he's in the same shadow as Brady...only, Cassal has more gifts than Brady. I know i'll catch some stuff about this but i know this kid had all the talent you need to be a great quaterback in the NFL. The thing he has over Brady is his ability to scramble other than that i believe these guys are carbon copies. The other thing that i noticed is that the second and third string players trying to make this team are as good as the starters on the teams we played. This pats team has some serious talent and have the debth to compete for another Super Bowl! They have some really tuff cuts to make and the ones that get away there will be many NFL teams ready to sign them. Now, the thing is, we have to stay healthy...I know, I know, but that's the game?! They have to stay healthy although, if they don't there is good talent that can step in and do a good job and we can still be in the running.

Last year was the greatest year ever in the history of the Pats and the NFL after losing weis n the D coach and draft picks and new players coming in and all the injuries they still could have gone all the way as they were. No team losing what they lost in the NFL could not have survived and would have did a nose dive to the cellar of their division. The Team last year was better than the three super bowl teams that the pats won...There is no doubt in my mind how great these guys hung in there and did a fantastic unbelievable incredible job. And you know, they didn't even get a mention from the media how awesome they were and how they pulled off what they did last year. In my opinion they were the greatest team in all of Football since the first teams to play the first NFL game in the history of Football.

These guys are ready and pump up! They stay healthy, they are Super bowl bound again...and i want Jr. Seau to get a ring and he is so happy playing for the pats he's pumped to get a ring. My heart breaks for the former 55 Willie cause i wanted him to retire as a Patriot and they should have never let him go! However, the addition of Seau will fot in nicely and we wont miss wilie too much...I still would rather have Willie here...but a nice trade off getting seau.

Stay tuned, it's going to be a great season with a kick ass offense and defense! Look at Big Ben Watson?! LOL!! This guy is unstopable! He's going to have a great year and they will not stop him getting the ball and after he gets it! I love this guy and he's a miss match for any team we play. I hope Dion signs? But we wont need him with the talent we have NOW! Troy Brown, what can you say? He's incredible...I really like the way Brady is getting the ball down low to his recievers instead of stringing them out and becoming Vulnerable for s serious hit that could take a receiver out from a serious injury. This team is nothing but the very besat and they have class and are the best team in the NFL.

How about Cobbs? Not bad eh? I could write a book and keep writing for the next two days about this team and how great they really are. So, i'll cut it short and say thanks.
