July — The Time To Recharge
Posted in General on July 15th, 2006Posts have been few and far between this month. For me July is a time to recharge the sports batteries. There are only two days the entire year that don’t have a regular season or post season game from one of the big four and both fall in July(Day before and day after the MLB All-Star game). with that in mond I use the time to prepare for the busy NFL season that is about to commence. I am above all a football fan, both pro and college, so August is a very exciting time for me. Baseball also digs in for the dog days, though the July 31st trade deadline is always exciting. So basically nothing major in the world of sports is happening right now, and I enjoy the time off….
That said, a couple things I want to talk about…
It’s officially time for Michelle Wie to STOP trying to make the cut at a Men’s PGA event. Listen, I am all for her reasoning for doing it, and I would give almost anything to have her talent, but let’s face it…SHe isn’t good enough. She hasn’t won on the Ladies’ Tour as of yet and every time she trys with the Men she fails. THis latest time she couldn’t even finish her round before she had to leave with Heat Exhaustion. My advice? Focus on the LPGA, and when you are dominating that circuit come see me. Until then, stay ways from the PGA!
***I am officially sick of Barbaro. Don’t get me wrong, it is a very touoching story, this horse that is getting better medical care than many unfortunate families that don’t have insurance. But the “Barbaro Watch” has become a bit excessive and I really don’t think people care. Just like Bonds, Wie and the Yankees, the mainstream just doesn’t care.
***When will Mike Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser be back on PTI. The last two weeks have been brutal wih Dan LeBatard subbin as eash went on vaca. It all culminated on Friday when LeBatard was joined by the most racist Sports-Writer on the planet Jason Whitlock. All you need to know about this guy is his opinion on Barry Bonds and steroids — comparing Bonds to Lance Armstrong — Bonds is the most hated athlete on the planet and Lance is hosting the ESPY’s. Of course he says the two are alike because they both have been accused of doping and both have “mountains of evidence” to support the claims. Except for one thing…Lance has probably been tested 1500 times, Bonds maybe a dozen, MAYBE. Secondly, cyclists test for HGH, baseball players would sooner force a work stoppage before agreeing to any blood testing. Nice try Whitlock, stick to eating the ribs…..
LeBron finally signed his 3 year extension. As I stated a few days back this deal made the most sense for LeBron. By avoiding a contract that would run past the length of the current CBA LeBron has the knowledge of what his next contract can be while at the same time putting the Cavs on notice. Now it is up to Danny Ferry and Dan Gilbert to make this thing happen.
My NFL Preview is on it’s way starting in the next couple weeks, so be on the lookout for that. Enjoy July sports fans, because things really start to heat up in August….
