Tribe Coaster Continues

The scores of the games say it all — 10-3, 14-2, 14-2.  If anyone out there works for the Elias Sports Bureau, please let me know the last time back-to-back games ended 14-2 with each team winning one.

It is another example that the roller-coaster ride of a 2006 season for the Tribe continues and appears to have no end in sight.  More disheartening is the lone win of the weekend on Saturday was set up by some of the worst play I’ve seen this year.  In a 2-2 tie, the Angels decided to go World Cup and started kickin the ball all over the field.  By the time the 6th inning was over EIGHT unearned runs had been scored.  So on paper it looked alot worse than it actually was.

It was the two losses that probably showed the true identity of this team.  In both the game was essentially over after the top of the 1st inning.  It is a disturbing trend that is happening waaaaay too frequently.  Look at the Tribe’s last 5 losses — 8-3, 3-1, 11-0, 10-3, 14-2.  See a pattern?  Take out the 3-1 loss, each game was a blowout, and worse it was the starter that gave up a majority of the runs and frankly took away any chance for the Indians to be in the ball-game.

Last night it was C.C. Sabathia getting tatooed.  For as well as he has pitched, he was probably due for a bad outing, but for a pitcher that some are claiming to be an ‘ACE’, an outing like last night is unacceptable.  I wrote about Roger Clemens the other day.  If you look at Clemens, or any of the other great pitchers today, they are more impressive when they don’t have their best stuff.  What makes a guy an ‘ACE’ is not what he does when he has it all going, it’s when he is competitive, even when he leaves the bullpen warm-up knowing he has nothing that day.  That is an ‘ACE’ and C.C. still needs to work to get there.

It’s only June 5th, but at the same time it’s JUNE 5TH!!!  Though perhaps too early for the Panic Button, it might be a good idea to wipe it down and get it ready.

It’s Official!!  The Jason Johnson experiment has failed.  I guaruntee that if Jeremy Sowers or Jeremy Guthrie or even Fausto Carmona were in the rotation they wuld do a better job than Johnson.  There is a reason this guy has pitched on bad teams his entire career….He’s a BAD PITCHER.  I try not to do that, because I would give almost anything to even have HIS talent, but as a pseudo-journalist I have to speak the truth.  I know the Indians have a large financial commitment in Johnson, but Season Ticket holders deserve more, especially it is really they who pay Johnson’s salary…
